Swimming

Children in Key Stage 2 have the opportunity to undertake a two week swimming course at Fairwater Leisure Centre, this usually takes place when the child is in Year 6. The lessons are taught by qualified swimming coaches employed by Fairwater Leisure Centre. The children walk to and from the Leisure Centre.

Cycling proficiency

Children in Year 6 have the opportunity to take part in Road Safety training, led by the County Road Safety Officer.

Adventure Weekends

Year 6 visit the Urdd Centre  Llangrannog for a 2 night stay. Year 5 children visit Manor Adventure Abernant for a 2 night visit. Both visits enable the children to take part in copious new experiences.

Educational Visits

To enhance the learning experiences of our pupils’ educational visits are organised throughout the year. When these occur, parents are asked to make a voluntary contribution towards the cost, and consent forms will need to be completed and returned to the school in plenty of time for the visit.

We wish to make it clear that no pupils will be denied participation in the visit on the grounds that no contribution has been made on his/her behalf. However, if sufficient contributions are not received then the visit may have to be cancelled.

Depending on the length of visit children may need a packed lunch and suitable clothing. Detailed arrangements of school visits are always forwarded to parents well in advance of the visit.

To conform with the requirements of the Education Reform Act 1988 it is the policy of the Governing Body to –

• make no charge for education provided during school hours including books and apparatus with the following exceptions –
• a charge for board and lodging costs on residential visits,
• a charge for instrumental tuition.
• to remit charges for board and lodging on compulsory residential visits for pupils whose parents are in receipt of income support or family credit,
• Parents will be informed by letter if an activity cannot be funded without voluntary contributions. The letter will outline –
• the planned activity and its educational purpose,
• the contribution per pupil will be indicated,
• the fact that no child will be excluded from the activity if his/her parents are unwilling or unable to contribute,
• the activity/visit will not go ahead if sufficient contributions are not supported
• The voluntary contributions which may be a suggested amount will be to defray –
  • Insurance.
  • Entry fees.
  • Shared cst for accompanying adults
  • Transprt
  • Any ther items deemed necessary by the Headteacher.
• The Headteacher may subsidise the above events wholly or partly from the school Voluntary Fund.
• Charges will be made for activities out of school hours on the basis of parental choice and willingness to pay.
